Transition Partnership Program
Mission StatementFresno County SELPA in conjunction with CDE believes that, "Working with our partners, we will create a dynamic, world-class education system that equips all students with the knowledge and skills to excel in college and careers, and excel as parents and citizens."
Our role as educators should be assisting our students and their families to help them succeed in becoming tomorrow's employees, parents and citizens. We need to help our students:
- DREAM...by providing them with community and vocational exploration through out their early school years so that as they are beginning to leave junior high our students can
- Self monitor their behavior and articulate what they want to try to learn as they are going on to high school
- Maintain focus through out high school to participate in the course of study they choose and
- Leave high school with knowledge, self esteem and motivation to accomplish their independent living and employment goals by
- Understanding the resources, training and educational options they can use to
- Obtain support as they transition to post secondary (higher) education, specific skill training and entry level employment to
- Empower them to become contributing members of their community therefore
- Breaking the cycle of needing public assistance and or extended family life long responsibility
Training:
- Provide parent, district and agency training regarding:
- IDEA transition services language regulations
- Student and family agency linkages
- To engage evidenced-based individualized supports and positive behavior plans
- Provide regional and local in-services to emphasize teachers' responsibilities in preparing students for vocational assessments, WorkAbility, California Department of Rehabilitation (DR) Transition Partnership (TPP) and secondary/post secondary options. In addition, support to special education teachers is provided by the SELPA as they prepare students for transition from school to careers.
Vocational Assessment:
- Vocational and/or career interest assessment is provided for ninth through twelfth graders. Assessment information is used to assist with career counseling, identify occupational aptitudes and skill, and evaluate work habits. Assessment reports are forwarded to the student's district for utilization in the IEP/ITP process.
- SELPA staff addresses the following vocational and career education resources for in school youth with disabilities:
- Program management and services for the Fresno County SELPA Department of Rehabilitation (DR) Transition Partnership Program (TPP).
- Work in conjunction with local Regional Occupational Programs (ROP), Vocational education staff, special education staff, and district personnel to develop and implement vocational and career education options that will assist students with disabilities.
- Consult with Fresno County SELPA districts upon request to identify and assist in the development of vocational education goals and objectives in The writing of IEPs, and Individual Transition Plans (ITPs).
- Work in cooperation with state and federal agencies providing vocational services.
- Maintain relationships with local community colleges, universities, and agencies that services students with disabilities.
