Comprehensive Positive Behavior Support

Mission Statement

To ensure comprehensive positive behavioral supports (PBS), that uses educational and systems change methods to enhance the quality of life and minimize problem behavior. Positive behavioral supports will enable educators, caregivers, community stakeholders, and the target individual to create conditions that will help the individual achieve his/her goals in a socially acceptable manner, thus reducing or eliminating episodes of problem behavior.

Goals

Training:

  • To facilitate training in Positive Behavioral Support within Fresno County SELPA and the community
  • To bridge research in PBS and applied practice.

Intervention:

  • To implement positive behavioral supports in the natural settings of individuals (e.g., schools, community)
  • To focus on comprehensive lifestyle change and quality of life issues for the target individual
  • To focus on proactive implementation of interventions
  • To engage evidenced-based individualized supports and positive behavior plans

Evaluation:

  • To ensure high-quality assessment procedures that are research-based (e.g., Functional Behavior Assessment)
  • To facilitate system-wide level assessment
