CSBA Region X Director

Susan Markarian, CSBA Region X Director, serves as liaison between the California School Boards Association and Fresno County school board members.  CSBA promotes success for all students by defining and driving the public education agenda and strengthening school board governance at the district and county level, as well as taking the lead on critical legislative issues in education.

CSBA Conference Reception

The Trustees Association and the Fresno County Board of Education co-host a reception at the annual California School Boards Association Education Conference held in November/December.  The reception provides trustees an opportunity to network with board members from throughout California.

County Committee on School District Organization

County Committees on School District Organization are directed by statue to study the organization of school districts under their jurisdiction and to make recommendations when necessary.  The Committee has the authority to analyze, coordinate, facilitate, and make recommendations that affect the number, size, type and shape of public education institutions. All school district proposals on boundaries, annexation, unification and related changes must be brought before the County Committee.

The Board of Education within each county is charged with coordinating the county committee.  An election is held to fill vacancies on the Fresno County Committee on District Organization during the Trustees Association meeting in October. (CA Ed Code Section 35023)

Candidate/Trustee Workshop

The Trustees Association hosts a Candidates Workshop and a Trustees Workshop on an as-needed basis.  The purpose of the workshops is to orient candidates and trustees on the scope of responsibilities of school board members.  Subjects include election guidelines, the Brown Act, school finance, personnel and curriculum.
