YEAR THREE
(2009-2010)
FOCUS:
Modern America Steps Onto the World Stage:
20th Century and Beyond
TAH GRANT EVENTS:
|

|
Colloquia/Workshop/Institute - Throughout each grant year, participants will attend
eleven days of
content-rich training. Our goals embedded in the grant are to increase
teacher content knowledge and to increase student knowledge. These meetings
will occur during the fall, winter, spring and summer months. Presentations are
conducted by noted scholars in the field of history and history education.
Teachers will collaborate, investigate teaching strategies, and conduct
historical research.
Our two-day spring workshop with Fresno Historical Society will enable teachers to get hands-on experience
while working with our local and regional resources. Teachers will become
familiar with all that our region has to offer, thus helping them to provide
their students with a better understanding of where they live. Ultimately,
both teachers and students will realize the link between local, regional,
and American history.

Book Club - The purpose of our history book club is to help teachers become more familiar with
our American history. Participants will be reading a variety of
content-rich books. We plan to meet every few weeks in a variety of
settings to conduct a salon (a meeting of intellectuals). Plans include
both online and in-person meetings at various sites throughout the three counties. CSUF
professors will help plan discussion topics and will oversee a few meetings
related to the reading. This will be scholarship at its finest.
Books
to be determined
First Book: American Exodus
by James N. Gregory
Second Book: The Fight in the
